Three people were displaced following an August 27 fire in the Fentress section of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 3:14 p.m. When the crews arrived at the 400 block of Berndale Drive, they found heavy smoke spewing through a two-story, single-family home.
The skilled team of firefighters had the situation under control in several minutes. Heavy damage occurred in the second floor of the home as well as a nearby attic space. Until the home can be assessed for structural damage and repaired, the family that owns the house is displaced. Thankfully, they were able to arrange for lodging in the area.
Nobody was hurt in the blaze, and fire inspectors are still investigating the cause of the incident.
While rare, events like this do happen. Most homeowners never experience a home fire. A good insurance policy, that includes an accurate replacement amount, can help homeowners avoid potentially crippling financial outcomes while they are dealing with the distress of the aftermath of a house fire.
