Tropical Depression Kilo has left the main Hawaiian islands, but only after dumping a large amount of rain across the state.
Bob Burke of the National Weather Service says that "we knew this moisture was likely going to make it up over the state, but the system itself is far to the southwest of us and the actual center of it is not expected to impact the main Hawaiian Islands."
A number of roads across the state were closed, and several Honolulu city facilities, including the zoo, were closed from flooding. Flooding has also closed several schools, beaches, parks and forest reserves.
Tropical storms, depressions and heavy rain can all lead to flooding that can damage homes. Most homeowners policies do not cover flood damage. However few homeowners purchase the additional flood coverage, which can be obtained through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and some specialty, private programs, as well.
