Labor Day 2026 is on Monday, September 7. It is a federal holiday to celebrate American workers and “to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being,” according to the U.S. Department of Labor. It was also intended as a day of rest for workers.
Unofficially it also marks the end of summer—although summer in the Northern Hemisphere officially ends on September 22, 2026. It is celebrated with parades, picnics, parties, retail sales and trips to the beach.
