Veterans Day is a federal holiday to honor U.S. Armed Forces military veterans past and present. It will be observed on Wednesday, November 11, 2026.

The holiday was originally called Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I, which occurred when a cease fire agreement went into effect at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918. That was the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954. Although the holiday was moved to the fourth Monday in October in 1968, it was changed back in 1975 to November 11 due to the historical significance of the date.
