Veterans Day 2024 is observed on November 11, as it is every year no matter what day of the week the 11th falls on. It is the federal holiday that honors all U.S. Armed Forces military veterans, past and present.
The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, which officially ended World War I. However, on November 11, 1918 an armistice went into effect that stopped the actual fighting. Veterans Day is observed on the day of the armistice.
Parades, ceremonies, wreath laying at cemeteries, concerts and other events mark the day. Five things to know about Veterans Day can be found at military.com/veterans-day, including when the holiday’s date was restored to November 11.
