Since 1957 Canadian Thanksgiving has been observed on the second Monday in October. This year it will be celebrated on October 9, 2023.
While its origins are in giving thanks for a good harvest, there have been other reasons for this celebration, including the safe return of early explorers. Thanksgiving is celebrated earlier in Canada than in the US because the harvest is earlier in Canada than in the US. The holiday is celebrated with family, food and football, along with parades and leaf-peeping (viewing the changing colors of the leaves in Autumn).
