A Bethany Beach, Delaware home caught fire on August 12, causing over $750,000 to the home and two neighboring estates.
The blaze was first reported at 11:15 pm, and took place in the 29000 block of Cove Way, Cotton Patch Hills, Bethany Beach.
The fire started in a three-story, wood framed home, and caused heavy damage to the building and its neighbors. The cause of the disaster is still unknown, but fire department officials are continuing to investigate it. So far, the fire department doesn't believe any foul play is involved.
The incident was first noticed by neighbors, who quickly called the occupants and evacuated them before calling the fire department. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a heavy garage fire quickly spreading to the rest of the home. Until the incident is resolved and the homeowners decide on their next step, they're staying with neighbors. According to Donna Gray, who first reported the fire, the flames were going straight into the air. Had the wind been stronger, she said, she wouldn't be surprised if it spread to the rest of the neighborhood.
Most homeowners never experience a home fire. While rare, events like this do happen. A good insurance policy, that includes an accurate replacement cost amount, can help homeowners avoid potentially crippling financial outcomes while they are dealing with the distress of the aftermath of a house fire.
